The theme of this year’s World Environment Day, “Only One Earth”, is a simple statement of fact. This planet is our only home. It is vital we safeguard the health of its atmosphere, the richness and diversity of life on Earth, its ecosystems and its finite resources. But we are failing to do so. We are asking too much of our planet to maintain ways life that are unsustainable. Earth’s natural systems cannot keep up with our demands.
今年世界環(huán)境日的主題是“只有一個(gè)地球”。這句話(huà)簡(jiǎn)單明了，直言事實(shí)。地球是人類(lèi)唯一的家園。我們必須保護(hù)地球大氣層的健康，維護(hù)地球上生命的豐富性與多樣性，捍衛(wèi)地球的生態(tài)系統(tǒng)，維續(xù)地球上有限的資源。然而目前我們沒(méi)有做到這些。人類(lèi)的生活方式對(duì)地球索取太多，因而不可持續(xù)。地球的自然系統(tǒng)已跟不上人類(lèi)的需求。
首句翻譯的很好，值得學(xué)習(xí)。原句有一個(gè)插入語(yǔ)，譯文將這句話(huà)拆分成兩句，補(bǔ)充“這句話(huà)”，并使用漢語(yǔ)中常用的四字詞語(yǔ)“簡(jiǎn)單明了”、“直言事實(shí)”，使譯文更地道連貫。
This not only hurts the Earth, but us too. A healthy environment is essential for all people and all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It provides food, clean water, medicines, climate regulation and protection from extreme weather events. It is essential that we wisely manage nature and ensure equitable access to its services, especially for the most vulnerable people and communities.
這不僅傷害地球，也傷害我們。健康的環(huán)境對(duì)所有人都至關(guān)重要，也對(duì)實(shí)現(xiàn)所有17項(xiàng)可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)至關(guān)重要。健康的環(huán)境能提供食物、凈水、藥物，健康的環(huán)境具有氣候調(diào)節(jié)功能，健康的環(huán)境還有助于人類(lèi)免受極端天氣事件的影響。我們必須明智地管理大自然，公平分享其資源和功能，尤其要與最弱勢(shì)人群公平分享。
Tips：17項(xiàng)可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)是聯(lián)合國(guó)制定的17個(gè)全球發(fā)展目標(biāo)，在2000-2015年千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)（MDGs）到期之后繼續(xù)指導(dǎo)2015-2030年的全球發(fā)展工作。17個(gè)可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)是實(shí)現(xiàn)所有人更美好和更可持續(xù)未來(lái)的藍(lán)圖。目標(biāo)提出了我們面臨的全球挑戰(zhàn)，包括與貧困、不平等、氣候、環(huán)境退化、繁榮以及和平與正義有關(guān)的挑戰(zhàn)。
